Documentation for STATSGO data for Wisconsin

This dataset contains the State Soil Geographic (STATSGO) soils data for Wisconsin compiled by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS -- formerly the Soil Conservation Service).

Several minor modifcations have been made to the data as distributed by the NRCS to remove inconsistencies between states and simplify analysis software. The modifications for Wisconsin are:

Added WIW entry to end of MAPUINT table with MUNAME = "WATER".
Added WIW entry to end of COMP table, with COMPNAME = "WATER".

In addition, while processing the COMP and LAYER tables at PSU/ESSC, one or more problems or inconsistencies were found which could not be corrected without reference to the original state soils data. These are listed in file known_problems.txt.

In addition to the NRCS metadata for this data set, the NCRS STATSGO Data Users Guide is available for viewing or downloading in either Postscript or Adobe Acrobat format.

The data are in an Albers Equal Area projection, with the following parameters:
