5.0 Basic Image Processing Scenarios

The initial design of LAS emphasized support for all the functions required to manipulate and analyze multi-channel imagery from remote sensing satellites. A number of typical processing scenarios were defined, starting with the input image(s) and going step-by-step through the individual steps needed to successfully create the desired output.

Each scenario is represented by a flow diagram, showing the LAS module(s) required at each step and intemediate files needed to pass image and control data from one step to the next. Some scenarios indicate alternate processing flows and LAS modules which may be invoked depending on the nature of the imagery being processed, the availability of other supporting data, etc. In some cases, other LAS modules not included in the diagrams could be substituted for those shown. Note also that there are many other LAS modules which provide additional capabilities outside the scope of the scenarios listed below.
