TOGA COARE and PROBE

Within Penn State's Meteorology Department, a research group headed by Dr. Thomas Ackerman is participating in two different atmospheric radiation research projects. The Pilot Radiation Observation Experiment (PROBE) was a test deployment for the Department of Energy's Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) program. The field work took place in Kavieng, Papua New Guinea. TOGA COARE (Tropical Ocean and Global Atmosphere Coupled Ocean-Atmosphere Response Experiment) is a project whose focus is to study the interaction of the atmosphere with the warm pool of the tropical, western Pacific. Archived atmospheric radiation data from these two projects may be found at the locations below.
