The USGS maintains the latest digital elevation data for the U.S. online in the National Elevation Dataset (NEDS). The data,on a rectangular grid in latitude/longitude corrdinates, are available for free download via the USGS Seamless Data Distribution System. The NEDS data may be of better quality than the data files listed above.
